On Saturday 24 October 2015 the first AMSASA challenge (Abacus Maths Association of South Africa) was held at Hoërskool Roodepoort. It was an amazing event as a 104 students representing Gauteng, Durban and the Western Cape participated to see who would qualify to represent South Africa in the GASJMA (Global association of the Japanese Mental Arithmetic) competition which will be held in Singapore on 2 October 2016.
The competition was also a showcase of what can be achieved with mathematical training when using the ancient Japanese counting tool. The students had been working hard throughout the year and all were looking forward to the event to show off the skills they had mastered up to now.
We are so proud of all the students and their parents who prepared and made all the effort to travel to Gauteng to support this very special event!

We are looking forward to this championship and trust that all the participants will work hard to reap success as we did in 2015.
